Getting dog with a retained testicle castrated?

Be sure to ask for pain meds and antibiotics when you pick him up. Try wrapping Saran wrap around his middle before he goes out to potty so he doesn't get anything thing the incision and if it doesn't work ( mine ripped it off before he'd go) then wipe his penis with a damp rag and then dry it so no small drop of urine ends up in that wound. He'll probably be walking into walls and furniture for 2 days and refuse food. Mine did.The vet we used for this surgery refused to give anything for pain or infection and regardless of my efforts the poor dog ended up with a nasty infection and was back in the office costing me more to treat long before the stitches were removed. And I had to switch vets because I don't know what they did to my sweet natured 95# german shepherd but he turned almost uncontrollably vicious as soon as he saw anyone who had anything to do with his surgery once he was in the office. It took a whole year and a half of walking him in monthly just to be weighed before he would not balk at going into the new vets office. This surgery was done around a year of age and my dog is 9 now. To this day I cannot separate my dogs at the vets office. Once the door closes this one gets anxious and upset to the point he's clawing the floor and biting the leash to get to the other dog if that's the one being seen. My advise to you is to ask ahead of time if you can stay with your dog right up till the time they prep him for surgery. And if you can be with your dog as soon as he starts to wake up.All you're going to do is stay by his head and pet him. You also want to leave him with something that smells like home for his comfort like a clean blanket to lay his head on overnight. If they tell you you'll be in the way or refuse to allow you in the back to be with him there's a problem they don't want you to see so find another vet to do this surgery. You don't take your kids to the hospital and hand them to a nurse and leave till they tell you to come get them so don't do it to your dog. They may tell you this is a simple procedure that will require your dog to stay overnight but it's a huge ordeal for the dog that I discovered has lasting effects on behavior if not handled properly.I'm not suggesting you're going to have the same problems or experiences but why run the risk if you don't have to.
